Jodel Dossou discusses his move to Sporting Toulon after Sochaux departure

Jodel Dossou discusses his move to Sporting Toulon after Sochaux departure

Beninese international Jodel Dossou recently joined Sporting Toulon, bringing his experience to the French National 2 side after departing FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. The 32-year-old winger, well-regarded for his pace and tactical skill, became a free agent following his exit from Sochaux, quickly finding a new home at Toulon.

In an interview with Var-Matin, Dossou shared details of the move, which was facilitated by his agent.

It’s simple, it was my agent who contacted me and told me that Toulon was interested in my profile,” Dossou explained.

He added that staying in France for at least another year was essential for family reasons, even though he had options to play abroad.

I wanted to stay in France for one more season, for family reasons, even if I had opportunities abroad,” he said.

Dossou’s exit from Sochaux came in the latter half of the transfer window, a timing that made it challenging to secure a new club immediately.

By then, many French teams had already solidified their rosters, making Dossou’s options limited.

My termination with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard happened in the second phase of the transfer window, and the clubs had made good progress with their recruitment,” he noted. “So I found myself on the floor when I wanted to continue.”

Dossou’s career has spanned over a decade in Europe, and he has played for multiple clubs in France and beyond, including a notable stint at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.

His journey has seen both high points and setbacks, but the winger remains as motivated as ever.

Now playing in the French fourth tier, he reflected on the nature of football and the personal reasons guiding his choice.

“How fast football goes, you can quickly go up and quickly go down.

I made this family choice, so for the moment, I’m content to be here.”

Acknowledging the competitive nature of National 2, Dossou emphasized the talent present at this level and his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the team.

The N2, it’s not as if it’s not real football,” he said. “There are good, confirmed players, young people in the making and everything.

You have to get to work and not think you’re superior to the level.

Because you can’t do the work of eleven people, you have to rely on the collective.”

Dossou, a native of Bohicon, is currently valued at €250,000 on Transfermarkt, a figure reflecting his years of experience and versatility on the field.

While with FC Sochaux, he reportedly earned an annual salary of €490,000, or 318,500,000 FCFA, a testament to his prominence in African and European football.

Now at Toulon, Dossou brings this background to a team eager for success in National 2, determined to stay competitive in the French football landscape.

For Dossou, it is also an opportunity to continue his professional journey in a way that aligns with his family needs and football ambitions, all while serving as an example for younger players at the club.
