Monaco face €15m demand for Algeria winger Farès Ghedjemis

Monaco will have to improve their offer for Algerian winger Farès Ghedjemis after Frosinone rejected an opening bid for the 23-year-old, who has become one of the French club’s attacking priorities.

The Ligue 1 side are looking for a replacement for Maghnes Akliouche following his move to Paris Saint-Germain for about €50m and have identified Ghedjemis as a potential option.

Monaco are reported to have offered €7m plus a further €2m in bonuses for the Frosinone winger. However, the proposal was turned down by the Italian club, who are understood to want at least €15m for their player.

Frosinone’s position has been strengthened by their promotion to Serie A. The club are therefore under no immediate pressure to sell Ghedjemis and can demand a significant fee for a player who still has value after an impressive season in Serie B.

The Algerian enjoyed a productive campaign, playing 38 matches in all competitions and starting 37 of them.

Ghedjemis finished the season with 15 goals and three assists, accumulating 3,099 minutes on the pitch. His performances played an important part in Frosinone’s successful promotion campaign.

His form has also attracted attention from Scotland, with Celtic and Rangers reportedly monitoring the winger. Their interest could further increase the competition for his signature and make negotiations more difficult for Monaco.

The Principality club will now have to decide whether to raise their offer as they continue preparations for the new season.

Time is also becoming an important factor for Monaco. They are due to play their final pre-season fixture against Coventry on 14 August before beginning their Ligue 1 campaign away at Le Havre on 23 August.

Between those fixtures, Monaco are scheduled to play in the Conference League play-off round, with matches on 20 and 27 August.

Bringing Ghedjemis to the club sooner rather than later would give Monaco more time to integrate him into the squad before the competitive schedule becomes increasingly demanding.

For now, however, Frosinone’s €15m valuation remains a significant obstacle. Monaco’s first proposal has been rejected, leaving the French club with the task of deciding how far they are prepared to go to secure the Algerian international.
