Jeremie Frimpong finds perspective amid Liverpool struggles

Jeremie Frimpong admits his first year at Liverpool has been one of the hardest periods of his career, with injuries disrupting the momentum he arrived with from Bayer Leverkusen.

Known for his electric pace and durability, the Dutchman had barely missed games in previous seasons, but at Anfield he has suffered a string of muscle problems that left him feeling like a different player.

“I’ve been faced with a lot of injuries,” he told The Telegraph, explaining that before this season his only real lay-off came after surgery following a bad tackle. “But for it to happen to myself, hamstrings!? It’s never happened in my career. I’ve had three injuries and, on top of that, the team is not doing so well, like we should do.”

Frimpong says missing out on potential trophies has made the setbacks even harder to swallow, but he leans heavily on his support network. “You have to understand we are human. We’ve got feelings as well,” he said, adding that his family and girlfriend have helped pull him away from negative thoughts when he goes home after tough days.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s been hard, but when I was down I had people with me… They distract me so I’m not just there sitting around looking at nothing.”
