PSV talent Amir Bouhamdi reportedly chooses Morocco over Netherlands

Young PSV Eindhoven winger Amir Bouhamdi has reportedly decided to represent Morocco at international level, bringing an end to speculation over his international future.

The 18-year-old is said to have informed the Royal Dutch Football Association of his decision to commit his international future to Morocco, effectively ruling out the Netherlands as an option.

The Dutch football authorities had reportedly approached Bouhamdi in an attempt to convince him to remain within the Dutch setup. However, the highly rated winger is said to have opted to continue his international career with the Atlas Lions.

Bouhamdi has also reportedly communicated his decision to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, paving the way for him to continue representing Morocco at youth and potentially senior level.

Born in the Netherlands to Moroccan parents, Bouhamdi has represented the Dutch national team at youth level in the past. However, his international allegiance began to shift after receiving his first call-up to Morocco’s Under-20 side last March.

His decision is another boost for Morocco, who continue to attract young dual-national talents as the country strengthens its pool of players for future generations.

For the Netherlands, meanwhile, losing Bouhamdi will be a blow given his potential and his development at PSV Eindhoven.

The winger will now look to build on his progress at club level while working his way further into Morocco’s international setup, with the Atlas Lions potentially securing another promising attacking talent for the future.
