Jaraaf’s return to the group stage marks a continuation of their ambitions, echoing their 2020-2021 campaign when they topped their group.
A strong start would provide the perfect launchpad for their pursuit of a title that has long eluded Senegalese clubs in African interclub competitions.
Facing a Formidable Opponent
While Jaraaf has yet to claim their first Confederation Cup trophy, ASEC Mimosas brings a storied legacy to the competition.
The Ivorian side, known as the “Cheetahs,” boasts a history of success, including victories in the African Champions League and the Super Cup.
Their experience and pedigree make them formidable opponents for the Senegalese representatives.
Jaraaf reached the group stage after overcoming another Ivorian club, Racing Club d’Abidjan, in the second preliminary round.
Following a goalless draw in Abidjan, Jaraaf secured their place with a commanding 3-0 win in the return leg at the Lat Dior Stadium.
Confidence and Focus
Coach Malick Daff expressed confidence ahead of the clash with ASEC, emphasizing his team’s preparedness and determination.
“Between the championship and the African Cup, they are two different competitions. We came to win. We have ambitions.
We have to work and stay focused for 90 minutes. Avoiding mistakes, winning duels, and being strong in both recovery and attack will be key,” Daff said.
The team’s arrival in Abidjan on Monday was marked by optimism, with Daff highlighting the players’ positive attitude during their first training session.
“We were well received. Everything is going well. Despite the trip, the players seemed liberated, and there was a great atmosphere. We felt their focus,” he added.
Looking Ahead
A strong result against ASEC would set the tone for Jaraaf’s campaign and build momentum for their next fixture.
On Sunday, December 8, they will host USM Algiers in Dakar for the second matchday.
Under the leadership of President Cheikh Seck, the “Green and White” are determined to make a lasting impact in this year’s competition, with the ultimate goal of bringing home Senegal’s first-ever CAF Confederation Cup title.
