Ivorian youngster Odilon Kossounou is set to move permanently to Italian Serie A side Atalanta.
The player is currently on the books of German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, but his time at the club is reportedly coming to an end.
Leverkusen confirmed on Friday evening that Atalanta will activate the purchase option in Kossounou’s loan deal, with reports suggesting the transfer fee will be in the region of €25 million.
Kossounou, whose contract with Leverkusen was set to run until 2025, played a significant role under Xabi Alonso during the club’s historic 2023/24 season, starting 21 Bundesliga games as the team clinched a domestic double.
Despite making just 12 Serie A starts during his loan spell, the Ivorian’s imposing 1.91m frame and versatility in defense made a lasting impression on Atalanta, convincing the Champions League contenders to make the deal permanent.
Atalanta are looking at completing the signing next week.
