Karim Bellarabi Earns First Germany Call-Up, Snubs Morocco
Karim Bellarabi, who was previously pre-summoned by Morocco, has made his international decision — and it’s for Germany. The Bayer Leverkusen winger was included in Joachim Löw’s squad for Germany’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifying matches against Poland (October 11 in Warsaw) and Ireland (October 14 in Gelsenkirchen).
Bellarabi has had a standout start to the Bundesliga season, including scoring the fastest goal in league history — just 9 seconds into a match — and his form has clearly caught Löw’s attention. His selection closes the door on any future with the Atlas Lions, a team that had expressed strong interest in securing his allegiance.
Alongside Bellarabi, Löw also recalled Mats Hummels and Max Kruse, bolstering a squad hit with injuries to key players like Mario Gomez, Sami Khedira, Marco Reus, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
