Samuel Eto’o Rescues a Point for Everton in Krasnodar
Veteran striker Samuel Eto’o was Everton’s savior on Thursday night as he scored a crucial equalizer in their 1-1 draw against FC Krasnodar during the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
Without Kevin Mirallas, who remains sidelined due to injury, Roberto Martínez opted to start Eto’o as the lone striker, leaving Romelu Lukaku on the bench. Everton enjoyed superior possession but struggled to break through the Russian side’s defense.
Krasnodar took the lead just before halftime, with Ari Da Silva Ferreira finishing a well-worked move in the 43rd minute. After the break, Lukaku replaced Christian Atsu, bringing more attacking threat but also picking up a yellow card in the 90th minute.
Eto’o eventually drew Everton level in the 82nd minute, scoring his second goal for the club and ensuring the Toffees remain top of the group with four points. They are followed by Krasnodar and Lille, both with two points, while Wolfsburg trail with just one.
