Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has expressed eagerness to feature at the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
Sundowns is one of the four African team expected to participate in the expanded 32-team tournament scheduled to take place at the USA runs from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
The Brazilians have been paired in Group F against Ulsan Hyundai, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense.
Sundowns will open their account against Ulsan Hyundai on June 17, 2025, followed by Borussia Dortmund’s clash on June 21 and Fluminense’s showdown on June 26.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be at the Club World Cup. This is history for the club, for the country. We’ve worked so hard to get here—you know how much we’ve fought to reach this stage, how much we’ve sacrificed…
This season, we had to focus on so many competitions, and only this week have we really been able to concentrate on the Club World Cup. It was a tough period after losing the Champions League final”
“The good thing is, the coach gave us a few days off—five or six days—and when we returned to training, you could see the energy was back”
“So those five days apart also… they gave us strength again, brought back that spark. Obviously, it was devastating, it was hard to accept that loss, but we have to keep moving forward. At Mamelodi Sundowns, there’s always another opportunity…” Williams told iDiskiTimes.
The club is not just aiming for a deep run, but for continental pride and a shot at becoming the first African team to lift the new-format Club World Cup trophy.
