Tottenham Hotspur’s Italy-born defender of Nigerian descent, Destiny Udogie, is set to miss approximately six weeks of action following a hamstring injury.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the setback, which adds to the club’s ongoing defensive crisis.
Udogie was forced off early during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Wolves last weekend, leaving an already-depleted backline missing key players such as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies.
His replacement, Sergio Reguilon, was previously deemed surplus to requirements and made available for transfer in the summer.
Addressing reporters ahead of Spurs’ clash with Newcastle United, Postecoglou shared updates on the club’s injury challenges.
“No, unfortunately, no,” he said when asked if any injured players would return in time for the match. “Destiny’s hamstring looks to keep him out for around six weeks. Bentancur is suspended, and none of the injured players are back yet. We’ve also had an illness bug in the squad, so a few players are missing training.”
The manager offered a glimmer of hope for reinforcements later in January.
“Richy [Richarlison] and Mikey [Moore] should be back next week, and then Ben [Davies], Micky van de Ven, and Romero are all expected to return by the end of January.”
Spurs’ injury woes have coincided with a rough patch of form, as the team struggles to regain momentum in the Premier League.
The club has secured just four points from their last six games, dropping to the bottom half of the table.
