Moroccan Ilyas Chaira rejects Gulf offers to pursue European ambitions
Moroccan forward Ilyas Chaira has rejected two offers from Gulf clubs, opting instead to continue his development in European football with Real Oviedo.
The 23-year-old, who has attracted growing attention for his performances in Spain, recently received official approaches from Abha Club in Saudi Arabia and Al Arabi SC.
Despite the financial strength of both proposals, Chaira has chosen to remain in Spain, prioritising his long-term sporting progress.
His decision reflects a clear career strategy centred on stability and development within a competitive environment.
Chaira is understood to be focused on building consistency at club level, with the added ambition of earning recognition at international level with Morocco.
The attacker’s pathway has been shaped through a gradual progression in Spanish football. Having developed at Girona FC, he gained experience through a series of loan spells that allowed him to refine his game.
These included moves to UD Ibiza during the 2020/21 season, UE Costa Brava in 2021/22, and San Fernando CD in the following campaign.
A key step in his development came during the 2023/24 season with CD Mirandés, where his performances marked a significant improvement in both technical and tactical aspects of his game.
That progress prompted Real Oviedo to secure his services on loan for the 2024/25 season before completing a permanent transfer in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee of around €1.5 million.
This season, Chaira has continued to establish himself within the squad. He has made 31 appearances across all competitions, including 30 league matches and one outing in the Copa del Rey.
Over that period, he has scored five goals and registered two assists, accumulating more than 2,000 minutes of playing time.
Those close to the player view the current campaign as a decisive phase in his career. Remaining in Spain is seen as essential to consolidating his level and continuing his progression in a league known for its tactical demands.
Chaira’s decision also underlines a broader commitment to a long-term project, favouring steady development over immediate financial gain.
As he continues to gain experience and consistency, his performances are expected to keep him on the radar of Moroccan football authorities.
