It’s quite surprising, but at the age of 37, Ibrahima Bakayoko is not ready to retire just yet. The former Marseille striker, known for his four-season stint with the club, is making a comeback to French Ligue 1. He has signed with Stade Bordelais, a CFA club, until the end of the season.
Speaking about his decision, Bakayoko mentioned his desire to return to France after completing his contract in Greece. His friendship with Lassina Diabaté, along with discussions with former Bordeaux player Lilian Laslandes, influenced his choice to join Stade Bordelais.
After spending seven seasons in Greece and a brief period at Istres during the 2004-2005 season, Bakayoko’s return to France marks a significant move in his career.
Bakayoko is best remembered for his time with Olympique de Marseille from 1999 to 2003, where he scored 34 goals in 136 matches. He also had successful spells at Montpellier (1995-1998), Everton in England (1998-1999), Osasuna in Spain (2003-2005), and Livorno and Messina in Italy (2005-2007).
