Ibrahim Maza backs Algeria to shine at 2026 World Cup
Algerian midfielder Ibrahim Maza has expressed strong belief that his national team can compete at the highest level ahead of the 2026 World Cup, insisting the Fennecs are capable of achieving significant success on the global stage.
The 20-year-old, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, spoke about Algeria’s prospects following his side’s defeat to Stuttgart, turning his attention towards the future of the national team rather than his club result.
Maza said he is confident that Algeria now possesses a squad strong enough to challenge some of the world’s leading football nations at the upcoming tournament.
“We are capable of achieving great things ,” Maza asserted, while also praising the influence and work of national team coach Vladimir Petkovic.
The attacking midfielder believes the time remaining before the World Cup will be crucial for preparation, giving Algeria the opportunity to refine their tactics and build cohesion within the squad.
He suggested that continued development between now and the tournament could play an important role in their performance on the world stage.
Despite his international ambitions, Maza remains focused on his responsibilities at club level. He is currently involved in a competitive fight with Bayer Leverkusen as the Bundesliga season reaches its decisive stage, with Champions League qualification still within reach.
Alongside his comments on the national team, Maza also addressed Algerian supporters, encouraging strong backing for the squad ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.
He specifically highlighted the friendly match against the Netherlands scheduled for early June, urging fans to show their support.
The young midfielder’s remarks reflect growing optimism within the Algerian camp as attention begins to turn towards World Cup preparations, with players and coaching staff aiming to build momentum ahead of the global tournament.
