Ibrahim Adel assists again as Nordsjælland move joint top with 3-0 win
Ibrahim Adel continued his impressive run for Nordsjælland by setting up a goal in their 3-0 victory over Sønderjyske in the fifth round of the Danish league, a result that lifted the club to the top of the table alongside Brøndby.
The Egypt international has now provided an assist in two consecutive matches. His latest contribution came after he created the winning goal against St. Gallen in the first leg of their Conference League qualifying tie on Thursday.
That run of form follows his decisive performance against Silkeborg in the fourth round of the Danish league last Sunday, when he scored the winning goal.
Adel began the match against Sønderjyske among the substitutes, with Nordsjælland possibly choosing to rest him ahead of the second leg against St. Gallen. The return match will be played next Thursday at the Swiss side’s stadium, with a place in the next stage of the Conference League qualifying process at stake.
The former Pyramids winger was introduced at the start of the second half, by which point Nordsjælland had already taken the lead. Marcus Walker opened the scoring in the 44th minute, giving his side a one-goal advantage at the interval.
Adel then made an immediate impact after coming on. In the 60th minute, he supplied the pass for Walker to score his second goal of the match and double Nordsjælland’s lead.
The home side continued to control the contest and completed the scoring three minutes from full-time. Vilum Bertelsen found the net in the 87th minute to secure a convincing 3-0 win.
The result takes Nordsjælland’s total to 10 points from five league matches. They are now level with Brøndby at the summit of the Danish league, underlining the importance of a strong start to their domestic campaign.
For Adel, the match provided another indication of his growing influence since returning to the Nordsjælland side. He has contributed both goals and assists in recent fixtures, but was initially held back against Sønderjyske as the club manages his involvement during a busy period that also includes European competition.
Nordsjælland will now turn their attention to the second leg against St. Gallen. Adel’s assist in the first meeting helped his team secure a win, while his performance from the bench against Sønderjyske ensured the club maintained its momentum in the Danish league.
