I can never be a coach after retirement – Nigeria icon Asisat Oshoala
Six-time African Player of the Year winner, Asisat Oshoala has revealed she has no intention of stepping into coaching when she hangs up her boots.
The Nigerian forward, one of the most decorated figures in women’s football, in an interview spoke openly about life after her playing career, stressing she has no passion to venture into coaching.
“I can never be a coach. I don’t think I have the passion to be a coach” she stated emphatically.
Meanwhile, Oshoala, who currently plies her trade for Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal intend to manage footballer when she calls it a quit from football.
“That’s why I want to, like, manage players in the future,” she added.
Oshoala’s career has already broken barriers. From starring for clubs across Europe and the United States to dominating African football, she has consistently set new standards for women’s football on the continent.
Her post-retirement vision now hints at continuing that influence off the pitch, shaping the next generation of talent rather than directing them from the technical area.
While many fans may have expected her to eventually take up coaching, Oshoala’s comments underline a growing trend among elite athletes exploring broader roles in the football ecosystem.
For a player who has already rewritten history on the pitch, her next chapter could be just as impactful—this time from the boardroom side of the game rather than the touchline.
