Hossam Hassan’s outburst explained leadership pressure and pay disputes fuel Egypt coach’s rage
Egypt national team manager Hossam Hassan let his frustration show after Egypt’s narrow win on penalties against Cape Verde in the Al Ain friendly tournament in the UAE.
Following a tough loss to Uzbekistan, Hassan’s post-match comments became a window into the pressures he faces ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Much of his outburst was aimed at critics and media figures, who downplayed Egypt’s recent successes. Hassan passionately defended his legacy, saying, “You must respect the national coach. Look at Morocco and how they support their coach. Egypt only has two players abroad, Salah and Marmoush.” He dismissed calls for a foreign coach, warning it would waste national resources, and underlined his commitment: “I played for Egypt until I was forty.”
Hassan also addressed rumors about the federation’s interest in bringing back Carlos Queiroz, revealing concern about leadership stability before AFCON. The manager then voiced frustration with earning a lower salary than other local coaches, despite leading the national squad, and called for more support and fair recognition for his role.
