Hope FC sign Kaizer Chiefs loanee Samkelo Zwane
Hope FC have completed the signing of Kaizer Chiefs loanee Samkelo Zwane on a season-long deal, adding the 24-year-old to their squad as they prepare for their first campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Zwane spent the previous season on loan at Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership, where he made seven appearances across all competitions. He will now continue his development in Cape Town after agreeing to join Hope, who have earned promotion to the second tier of South African football.
The move gives Zwane another opportunity to secure regular playing time after a limited spell with Siwelele. Hope will be hoping his experience of top-flight football can contribute to their ambitions during their debut Championship season.
The club confirmed the move on social media, saying: “We’re delighted to welcome Samkelo Zwane, who joins us on a season-long loan from Kaizer Chiefs,”
Hope added: “We’re excited to have Samkelo with us and look forward to watching him enjoy his football, show his quality and play his part in helping the club achieve its goals this season.
“Welcome to the Immortals, Samkelo.”
The Cape Town club have been active in the off-season as they build a squad capable of competing in the Championship for the first time. Zwane is the latest addition to a recruitment drive that has already brought Miguel Timm, Brandon Theron and Tauric Gamildien to Hope.
Signing a player on loan from Kaizer Chiefs represents another notable move by the Championship newcomers as they prepare for the demands of second-tier football. Zwane will now compete for a place in a Hope team seeking to establish itself at that level.
His arrival also strengthens the club’s links with one of South Africa’s best-known sides, while providing Kaizer Chiefs with the chance to monitor his progress during the season. For Zwane, the switch to Cape Town marks a fresh start following his brief involvement at Siwelele.
Hope’s announcement made clear that the club expects Zwane to enjoy his football, demonstrate his ability and contribute to its objectives. The player will therefore join a squad being assembled with the specific challenge of making a successful start to life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The contrast between Hope’s first appearance in the division and Zwane’s previous experience in the Betway Premiership will be central to the move. While the club begins a new chapter in the second tier, Zwane arrives after spending the previous campaign within South Africa’s top-flight setup.
Hope have not disclosed any change to the length of the arrangement beyond confirming that it will run for the season. The club have, however, publicly welcomed the player and set out their expectation that he will play a role in helping the “Immortals” achieve their goals.
