Harry Kane plans Bayern Munich stay as contract discussions loom

Harry Kane is set to open talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract in early August, with the England captain showing no desire to leave the German club despite interest from Barcelona and Al-Hilal.

Kane’s existing agreement runs until the summer of 2027, but Bayern Munich have already begun preparations to retain their leading striker for longer. The negotiations are expected to begin once Kane returns from holiday, according to Spanish newspaper AS, citing reports in the German media.

Several German outlets have reported that Bayern Munich will hold formal discussions with Kane at the start of August. The club want to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena after the striker established himself as a central figure in their sporting plans following his move from Tottenham.

Kane has been enjoying a family holiday in the Caribbean after representing England at the World Cup. He is expected to join Bayern Munich’s training programme after the club’s Asian tour, which runs from 1 to 8 August.

Although speculation about his future has persisted in recent months, Kane is understood to be focused on remaining in Germany. The 30-year-old is reportedly willing to extend his contract and continue competing for honours with Bayern Munich, while also maintaining his place at the heart of the England team.

According to Bild, salary is unlikely to be the main issue in the negotiations. Kane currently earns about 25m euros a year, making him one of Bayern Munich’s highest-paid players.

The club are not believed to be considering a reduction in his wages, given his importance to the team and the status he has earned since arriving from Tottenham. As a result, the financial terms of a new agreement are not expected to present the biggest obstacle to a deal.

The key question is likely to be the length of the contract. Bayern Munich plan to make an initial offer that would keep Kane at the club until at least 2029.

Kane’s representatives, however, want an arrangement that allows him to continue performing at the highest level in the coming years. The 2030 World Cup is also expected to form part of their long-term considerations.

The striker wants to preserve his ability to compete for Bayern Munich and England, making the duration of any new deal an important part of the discussions. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl and chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen are expected to lead the club’s negotiations.

Kane’s father and brother will represent the player during the talks. Both sides are understood to have a clear interest in reaching an agreement that would extend his time with the Bavarian club.

Barcelona and Al-Hilal are among the teams reported to have shown interest in Kane, particularly after his impressive campaign in which he finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer.

Despite that attention, Kane has not seriously considered a transfer. His priority remains continuing his career with Bayern Munich, winning more trophies with the club and competing for England.

A return to Tottenham is also not currently part of his plans, despite his strong links with the club where he began his career and established himself in English football.

Kane’s future therefore appears to be in Germany, with the length of his next contract likely to be the decisive issue when negotiations begin.
