Happy Mashiane: Stellenbosch FC linked with move for free-agent South African left-back

South African left-back Happy Mashiane, currently a free agent after leaving Kaizer Chiefs, is being linked with a move to Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC from his present status of Without Club.

Mashiane, 28, officially became unattached on 1 July 2026 after his contract with Chiefs ended and he returned from a loan spell at Siwelele Football Club. Transfermarkt lists his current market value at 25,000 (25k), with the mooted switch to Stellenbosch recorded as a rumour and the probability of a deal still marked as unknown.

Born in Tembisa, Gauteng on 1 January 1998, Mashiane is a left-footed defender whose main position is left-back. Having progressed from Kaizer Chiefs II, he was promoted to the senior side in January 2019 and went on to build his reputation in South Africas top flight before seeing his valuation peak at 275,000 in May 2023 during his time at Naturena.

His most recent competitive football came during the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Siwelele Football Club in South Africa, before he briefly returned to Chiefs at the end of that season and then departed as a free agent. No national-team involvement is currently recorded for the defender.

Mashianes market value has declined steadily over the past two years, dropping from 225,000 in early 2023 to 50,000 in December 2025 with Siwelele and then to 25,000 in June 2026, according to Transfermarkts latest update.

With Stellenbosch operating in the same Betway Premiership environment where Mashiane made his name, a move if it materialises would offer the Tembisa-born defender a chance to re-establish himself at the top level and potentially rebuild the trajectory of a career that once saw him rated among the more valuable full-backs in South Africa.
