Hamari Traoré will be sidelined for the remainder of the year following a severe knee injury sustained during Real Sociedad’s recent La Liga match against Getafe on September 1. The Malian defender’s injury, diagnosed as a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), has ruled him out for several months.
The 32-year-old Traoré, who was a key player for both Real Sociedad and the Mali national team, underwent imaging tests which confirmed the severity of the injury.
Real Sociedad’s official statement revealed, “Hamari Traoré injured his right knee during yesterday’s match.
During the imaging tests carried out, a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament was found. He will be operated on in the coming days.”
The prognosis indicates that Traoré will face an extended period on the sidelines. Recovery from an ACL injury typically spans between 7 to 9 months, which means the defender’s season is effectively over.
This injury not only affects his club duties but also means he will miss Mali’s upcoming international fixtures during this break.
In the match against Getafe, Traoré demonstrated his usual commitment before his unfortunate exit.
In 66 minutes on the pitch, he touched the ball 45 times, won 7 duels, and made a crucial interception. Despite his efforts, he was replaced due to the injury.
Traoré’s absence will be felt deeply at Real Sociedad, where he has been a consistent performer, contributing one assist in four appearances this season.
His leadership and defensive capabilities will be missed as the team navigates the rest of the campaign without him.
The injury represents a significant setback for both Traoré and his team.
