Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has arrived at the Super Eagles’ camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying campaign. With Boniface’s arrival, the number of players in camp has now swelled to 12, as the team prepares for their crucial clash against Benin Republic.

Boniface, fresh from club duty in Germany, joins a growing list of players reporting for international duty under head coach José Peseiro.

The striker was last seen in action for Leverkusen on Saturday, where his team suffered a defeat against RB Leipzig, bringing an end to their long unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga.

Boniface’s arrival is a key moment for the Super Eagles.

He missed out on the AFCON 2023 tournament due to an injury but has since regained fitness, returning to the national fold after playing under Finidi George during Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The forward’s presence is expected to add a significant attacking threat as the Super Eagles gear up for their qualifying matches.

Nigeria’s journey to AFCON 2025 begins with a home fixture against Benin Republic, known as The Cheetahs, on September 7 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

Following this, the Super Eagles will head to Kigali, Rwanda, for their second group-stage match three days later.

With 11 more players expected to join the camp in the coming days, Nigeria will soon have their full squad assembled.

Expectations are high for Peseiro’s team as they aim to secure an early advantage in the qualification process for the prestigious tournament.

The AFCON 2025 qualifiers represent a crucial opportunity for the Super Eagles to reassert themselves as a dominant force in African football.

As preparations intensify, fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on how the team, bolstered by talents like Boniface, approaches the task ahead.
