The Egyptian Football Association has appointed Hamada Sedki as manager of the Egypt Under-23 national team as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Under-23.
Egypt Under-23 will start its preparations with a friendly against Japan on Tuesday 17 November at 18:00.
Sedki will lead a coaching team consisting of Adel Mostafa as coach, Ahmed Hassan as team director, Essam El Hadary as goalkeeping coach, Mohamed Ezz as assistant coach and Kamal Abdel Wahed as fitness coach.
The appointment comes days after Sedki left his role as manager of Algerian club ES Setif.
Sedki has previously coached Smouha, ENPPI, El Gouna, Sudanese club Al Hilal and ES Setif. He was also in charge of Egypt’s local players national team in 2017.
Mostafa worked as a coach at Al Ahly alongside Jes Thorup’s coaching staff last season. Hassan and El Hadary previously held the positions of team director and goalkeeping coach respectively during the 2025 Arab Cup, when Helmy Toulan was manager.
Egypt will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Under-23 finals in November 2027. The tournament will serve as a qualifying competition for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The friendly against Japan will take place on Tuesday 17 November at 18:00.
Before the Egyptian Football Association settled on Sedki and his staff, its technical director Shawky Gharib temporarily supervised the Under-23 team.
Gharib led the team’s first training camp, which included physical and medical assessments but no friendly matches.
Sedki succeeds Brazilian Rogerio Micale, who guided Egypt to fourth place at the Paris Olympics.
Gharib, Hossam El Badry and Hany Ramzy have also managed the Egypt Under-23 national team in recent years.
