Hajduk Split bring in Khalil Fayad as Montpellier midfielder moves to Croatia

Morocco-France midfielder Khalil Fayad has joined Croatian side Hajduk Split from Montpellier, completing a move that takes the 22-year-old into the SuperSport HNL.

Fayad has signed a contract with Hajduk running until 30 June 2029. The central midfielder arrives after four seasons connected with Montpellier’s senior set-up, having moved from Montpellier B to the first team in July 2022.

Born in Montpellier, Fayad developed within the French club’s youth system before progressing through Montpellier Under-17s and Under-19s. His move to Hajduk represents the first overseas transfer of his career and takes him from France’s Ligue 2 to Croatia’s top flight.

Fayad has not made an appearance in Ligue 2 during the opening matches of the 2026-27 campaign. He joins Hajduk after Montpellier’s switch to the Croatian club was recorded on 1 September 2026.

The midfielder stands 1.72m tall and is right-footed. His primary role is in central midfield, giving Hajduk a player whose position is focused in the middle of the pitch rather than on either flank.

Fayad has represented both Morocco and France in his nationality background. He moves to a Hajduk squad competing in the SuperSport HNL, with his new contract extending across the next three seasons and beyond.

The transfer also marks a new stage in a career that began with Montpellier For before Fayad advanced through the club’s age-group structure. He joined Montpellier Under-17s in July 2019, moved to the Under-19 side a year later and then continued his progression with Montpellier B.

His market value was recorded at €1.5m at the time of the move, while the highest valuation listed during his career was €5m. Those figures do not alter the central detail of the transfer: Fayad has left Montpellier and is now a Hajduk Split player.

The Croatian club has secured the midfielder’s services on a deal that runs until 30 June 2029, completing Fayad’s move from France to Croatia.
