Haitham Hassan savours Celtic success as Dundee United are swept aside

Haitham Hassan began his Celtic career with a place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals as the Scottish champions defeated Dundee United 4-0 on Saturday.

The Egypt international was introduced from the bench in the 71st minute as Celtic completed a convincing victory and progressed to the last eight of the competition.

Hassan joined Celtic during the current summer transfer window from Real Oviedo, having established himself as one of Egypt’s notable footballing talents. His first appearance for the Scottish club came with the outcome already heavily in Celtic’s favour, but it marked the start of his competitive career with his new side.

Celtic controlled the match from the opening stages and took the lead in the 22nd minute. Auston Trusty opened the scoring, giving the visitors an advantage after a dominant beginning.

The lead was doubled only two minutes later when Camilo Duran found the net. That quick second goal strengthened Celtic’s grip on the tie and left Dundee United facing a significant challenge before half-time.

Celtic continued to dictate proceedings after the interval and added a third goal in the 53rd minute. Sebastian Tounekti was the scorer, extending the visitors’ advantage to three and moving them closer to a comfortable passage into the next round.

Benjamin Nygren completed the scoring in the 62nd minute, making it 4-0 before Hassan was brought on nine minutes later.

Although Hassan did not begin the match in the starting line-up, his arrival represented his first competitive contribution for Celtic since completing his move from Real Oviedo. He entered a side already in complete control and helped see out a result that secured Celtic’s place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.

The victory was built on a fast start and a clinical spell either side of half-time. Trusty’s opener was followed almost immediately by Duran’s goal, while Tounekti and Nygren added further strikes after the break.

For Dundee United, the four-goal defeat ended their involvement in the competition. Celtic, meanwhile, advanced in emphatic fashion, with Hassan’s debut coming on a night when his new team produced a commanding display from start to finish.
