Haissem Hassan resists Saudi Pro League move as Real Oviedo plan summer rebuild

Reports in Spain say Haissem Hassan remains reluctant to join the Saudi Pro League this summer, despite receiving a financially significant offer that would also satisfy Real Oviedo’s expectations for the winger.

According to La Nueva Espana, the Saudi proposal is the most serious approach received for Hassan so far. It would provide Real Oviedo with the level of income the club is seeking, while offering the player a long-term contract and a salary considerably higher than he could earn in Spain.

However, Hassan continues to favour staying in Europe. The Egypt international is waiting to see whether offers arrive from more competitive European leagues before making a final decision on his future.

Hassan returned to Real Oviedo training after completing his participation in the 2026 World Cup. Despite the financial appeal of the Saudi offer, he has maintained his current position against moving to Saudi Arabia at this stage.

The winger’s decision has significant consequences for Real Oviedo, who regard his sale as a major priority during the summer transfer window. The proceeds from the transfer would allow the club to increase the salary limit set by La Liga and give them greater scope to complete further signings before the new season begins.

Real Oviedo are also planning to use the money generated by Hassan’s departure to help fund a move for Argentine defender Kevin Lomonaco. He is regarded as one of the club’s leading targets this summer, but any attempt to complete that deal remains linked to the resolution of Hassan’s situation.

Hassan’s performances at the 2026 World Cup, particularly in the match against Argentina, have significantly increased his market value. Even so, Real Oviedo do not expect to receive the full €12m release clause included in his contract.

Negotiations remain ongoing, with the Spanish club waiting for Hassan to clarify whether he is prepared to accept the Saudi proposal or continue his career in Europe. The player’s preference for a more competitive sporting environment means the final decision has not yet been reached, despite the scale of the financial package on offer.

For Real Oviedo, the uncertainty is tied not only to the future of one of their most valuable players but also to their ability to strengthen the squad. A transfer would provide funds to raise the club’s permitted wage limit and pursue Lomonaco, while Hassan’s decision to stay would leave the club needing to reassess both its transfer plans and its financial expectations for the summer.
