The Guinean Football Federation has formally opened applications for the position of head coach of the Syli National, signaling a fresh chapter for the West African nation’s senior men’s football team.
In a statement released on 13 June, the Federation confirmed its intent to recruit a high-level coach to oversee the rebuilding of the national team in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“As part of the restructuring of the national team of the Republic of Guinea, the Guinean Football Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of a high-level coach to fill the position of coach/selector of the Syli National A of Guinea,” the announcement stated.
The deadline for submissions is set for 7 July 2025 at 16:30 GMT.
The selected candidates will then proceed to an interview phase scheduled for 14 July 2025 at 11:00 a.m., to be held at the Federation’s headquarters in Conakry.
The federation’s criteria are clear: the incoming coach must be capable of leading Guinea into major international tournaments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The post demands both tactical acumen and a proven track record at the highest level.
The decision to seek new leadership follows growing uncertainty around the position, particularly concerning current coach Michel Dussuyer.
Tensions had reportedly been simmering for some time between the Frenchman and federation officials.
Guinea’s failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations — though slim hopes remain — has only intensified calls for change.
Further complicating matters was the unexpected cancellation of the Syli National’s June training camp, a development said to have left Dussuyer frustrated.
The federation’s recent announcement appears to underscore that the search for new direction has officially begun.
The position will undoubtedly attract interest from across the continent and beyond, as Guinea looks to establish a clear vision ahead of the next competitive cycle.
The official call for applications and ongoing developments are being shared through the Federation’s digital platforms, as anticipation builds around who will be entrusted with steering the Syli National toward continental and global success.
