Guinea-Bissau stun Nigeria with emphatic 3-0 win in CAN 2027 qualifying

Guinea-Bissau produced a major upset by beating Nigeria 3-0 on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, in the second round of CAN 2027 qualifying.

The Djurtus took control in the 15th minute when Franculino Dju converted a pass from Nhaga to put the hosts ahead. Nigeria were unable to find an equaliser before half-time, despite attempting to impose themselves on the game.

The Super Eagles made several attacking changes after the interval in an effort to get back into the contest. Guinea-Bissau, however, maintained their defensive discipline and prevented Nigeria from creating a decisive breakthrough.

Guinea-Bissau extended their advantage in the 66th minute. Balde finished after being set up by Camara, leaving Nigeria facing an increasingly difficult recovery.

The hosts completed a memorable victory in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Djalo struck in the 90+5th minute following a final assist from Tamble to seal a 3-0 result.

The victory over one of the group’s leading sides puts Guinea-Bissau firmly in control of Group L. They remain top with six points, while Nigeria have three. Tanzania and Madagascar each have one point.
