Doku hits unique open play creativity milestone for Man City

Pep Guardiola has firmly linked Jeremy Doku’s impressive surge in form to his own influence, as the winger continues to evolve into one of Manchester City’s most decisive attacking threats this season.

The City boss made the remarks after his side were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Everton on Monday night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, a result that ended their six-match winning streak in all competitions.

Despite the dropped points in a chaotic encounter, Doku stood out as the brightest performer on the pitch.

The Belgian winger of Ghanaian descent, who endured an uneven start to life at the club following his arrival, has steadily grown in influence, now boasting seven goals and 14 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Against Everton, his double and relentless work rate offered City their most consistent attacking outlet on an otherwise frustrating evening.

Beyond his end product, Doku’s transformation has also been evident in his willingness to contribute defensively, tracking back and supporting his full-back with greater discipline.

That development has not gone unnoticed by Guardiola, who suggested the player’s rise is a reflection of coaching impact rather than individual momentum alone.

“The manager always. When the player play good it is thanks to the manager. When they play bad, it is because of them,” Pep Guardiola told reporters.

“I am so glad. I am so glad that he makes this step and an impact, one on one. But not just the goals and assists, he was still pushing defensively. Jeremy has been amazing this season.”

With Manchester City’s Premier League title ambitions finely poised, attention now shifts to a crucial weekend fixture against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola will be demanding a response, with Doku expected to again play a central role as City seek to steady their campaign and maintain pressure in the title race.
