Marketing Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Jamil Maraby, is optimistic that the Black Stars will finally end their long wait for continental success by winning the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana, four-time African champions, have not lifted the trophy since 1982, despite coming close in recent decades with final appearances in 1992, 2010 and 2015.

Speaking to the GFA’s official website, Maraby said the current squad has the experience and cohesion needed to mount a serious title challenge.

“I am very confident and feel Ghana will win the next AFCON,” he stated.

He pointed to the continuity within the team as a key advantage, noting that a large core of players has developed together over several years and gained exposure at major international tournaments.

“About 60 to 70 per cent of the squad remains intact. Many have played in two World Cups, and some have featured in three AFCON tournaments. By 2027, they will be at their peak – around 27 to 28 years. It’s a natural cycle,” he explained.

Maraby also suggested that shifts in African football dominance could work in Ghana’s favour.

“Ivory Coast had their chance and took it. Senegal are at the top now, but cycles change, and Ghana will rise again,” he added.

Before the 2027 AFCON, the Black Stars will feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
