FWZ dump favourites Porcinos FC out of Kings League Club World Cup on penalties in Milan

FWZ, led by Kuwaiti content creator Fawaz Alshammari, claimed their first ever win at the Kings League Club World Cup 2026 by knocking out highly fancied Porcinos FC of Spain on penalties in Milan.

The side representing Kuwait edged through 4-1 in a shootout after a tightly contested tie, eliminating one of the tournament’s leading contenders and underlining the growing impact of teams from the Middle East and North Africa at the global event.

Porcinos FC, one of the most successful and popular clubs in the Kings League set-up, were unable to translate their domestic stature into progress in Italy, as FWZ held their nerve to end the Spaniards’ campaign and register a landmark victory in their debut appearance at the Club World Cup.

The result adds to a strong start for teams from the region, coming just days after Saudi side DR7 recorded a historic win over the reigning champions in their opening match of the competition.

Milan hosts 16-team global sevens showcase

The Kings League Club World Cup 2026 is being staged in Milan from 26 July to 1 August, with 16 clubs from Kings League competitions around the world competing for the title of world champions in seven-a-side football.

The tournament is played under the competition’s trademark experimental rules, which are designed to create a faster, more unpredictable format and have helped drive its rapid growth among younger audiences.

Regional expansion in Middle East and North Africa

FWZ’s progress comes as preparations intensify for the first full season of Kings League – Middle East, the regional version of the competition for the Middle East and North Africa.

The inaugural complete season will be held in Riyadh from 18 September to 30 October, featuring 10 teams. All matches will be played at the COOL Arena in Boulevard Riyadh City, under a strategic partnership between Kings League and Saudi sports investment company SERG.

After a successful pilot edition, the league is expanding from eight to 10 clubs, with an 11-round regular season leading into a Final Four stage that will decide the champions.

Pique’s project continues global rise

Kings League, founded by former Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, is an innovative seven-a-side football competition that blends sport, content creation and digital entertainment.

Using unconventional rules and heavy fan interaction, the league has quickly built a global following, spawning local versions in several countries and launching both club and national team World Cups. It is now regarded as one of the fastest-growing sports properties worldwide.

The Middle East and North Africa edition follows the same concept developed by Pique, aiming to reimagine football through a sevens format whose clubs are chaired by prominent content creators and influencers from across the region.
