Zamalek midfielder Ahmed Rabie picks up injury

Zamalek midfielder Ahmed Rabie has revealed that he suffered a broken nose during the club’s recent CAF Champions League assignment against the Rwandan Army, raising concerns over his availability for Tuesday’s Egyptian Premier League encounter against Petrojet.

Rabie was named in the starting line-up when the Egyptian giants secured a 1-0 away victory over the Rwandan Army last Friday in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League at Amahoro Stadium.

The midfielder confirmed the injury in a post on his Instagram account, where he shared a picture of himself and disclosed that he had broken his nose.

“Thank God in all circumstances… a broken nose… God’s will be done,” Rabie wrote.

The injury comes at an inconvenient time for Zamalek, who are preparing for a busy schedule across domestic and continental competitions.

The White Knights are scheduled to face Petrojet on Tuesday in the seventh round of the Egyptian Premier League, with Rabie’s availability now a concern ahead of the encounter. The club’s medical team will need to assess his condition before determining whether he can feature in the match or requires additional time to recover.

Zamalek returned to Cairo on Sunday following their trip to Rwanda, where they secured a narrow but important victory in the opening leg of their Champions League tie.

The Egyptian side will be looking to build on that result when the two teams meet again in the return leg at Cairo International Stadium on Saturday, October 24, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Their 1-0 victory gives them an advantage heading into the second leg, although they will need another disciplined performance to secure qualification for the next stage of the competition.

Domestically, Zamalek occupy third place in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 13 points from their opening six matches.

However, their league campaign suffered a setback following their defeat to arch-rivals Al Ahly last Sunday, increasing the importance of their upcoming fixture against Petrojet.

Rabie’s injury will therefore be closely monitored as Zamalek seek to maintain their domestic challenge while continuing their pursuit of continental success.
