French-Ivorian forward Elye Wahi keen to stay at Nice despite financial hurdle
Elye Wahi wants to remain at OGC Nice after an impressive loan spell, but financial constraints could complicate a permanent move.
The forward has made a strong impact since arriving on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring four goals and providing two assists in just nine appearances.
His performances have quickly established him as an important figure within the squad and contributed to growing interest in extending his stay on the French Riviera.
Wahi, recently capped by Ivory Coast, has expressed a clear desire to continue his career in Nice, where he is said to feel fully settled and integrated into the team environment.
His adaptation on and off the pitch has strengthened his case for remaining at the club beyond the current loan agreement.
Despite this mutual interest, a permanent transfer remains uncertain. Reports suggest that Nice do not currently have the financial capacity required to secure the striker on a full deal once his loan expires.
The situation presents a challenge for the club, which must balance its ambition to retain a key player with its financial limitations.
An alternative solution could involve negotiating a renewed loan agreement. Such a deal may include a loan fee and an option to buy, offering a compromise that would allow Nice to keep the player while providing Frankfurt with a pathway to recover part of their investment.
The German side had previously signed Wahi from Olympique de Marseille for a reported fee of 26 million euros.
Discussions between the clubs are believed to be ongoing, with both sides exploring possibilities that could extend Wahi’s stay.
However, the situation remains open, particularly with the summer transfer window approaching.
Given his recent form, Wahi is also likely to attract attention from other clubs, which could further complicate negotiations.
For now, Nice’s priority appears to be finding a viable solution that would allow them to retain one of their standout performers.
