France U21 striker of Cameroonian descent, Hugo Ekitike, starred with a goal and an assist on his debut in the English Premier League, leading Liverpool to a 4-2 victory against AFC Bournemouth.
Ekitike opened the scoring in the 37th minute, reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area before firing into the bottom right corner to give the Reds the lead. Moments after the break, he was involved again, setting up Cody Gakpo in the 49th minute for Liverpool’s second with a neat assist, as the Dutch forward drilled a precise shot into the right-hand corner.
Bournemouth refused to go down quietly, however. Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo struck twice in the second half, first in the 64th minute with a composed finish from close range, then again in the 76th minute with a powerful effort from the edge of the box to level the match at 2-2.
Liverpool’s response was swift, restoring control in the closing stages to secure a thrilling 4-2 victory.
For Ekitike, the night was especially memorable as he announced himself to the Anfield faithful with a decisive contribution in his very first league outing.
He is the first player for Liverpool to score and assist in his debut in the English Premier League since Darwin Nunez in 2022.
