Liverpool are not currently prioritising a move for Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Rayan Cherki, despite the French youth international’s recent hints about seeking a new challenge away from Ligue 1.
Cherki, who has Algerian roots, had fuelled speculation around his future with comments suggesting he was “ready for a new chapter,” but the Reds have reportedly not placed him high on their transfer agenda for the upcoming window.
According to Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger, Liverpool are instead focusing their attention on alternative targets, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz among those drawing strong interest.
Wirtz’s standout performances under Xabi Alonso have made him a top candidate as Liverpool look to refresh their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Merseyside club is expected to back head coach Arne Slot with key signings, particularly in midfield and attacking areas, but sources close to the club indicate that Cherki is not being seriously considered at this stage.
The 21-year-old, known for his creativity and technical flair, has long been tipped for a move to one of Europe’s elite sides, having broken into Lyon’s first team as a teenager.
However, Liverpool’s recruitment strategy appears focused elsewhere, with the club prioritising players they believe can make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
