Fousseyni Diawara wants Mali coaching job

Former Mali international Fousseyni Diawara has declared his candidacy for the vacant coaching job following the exit of Tom Saintfiet.

The Eagles are currently without a substantive manager following the exit of Tom Saintfiet after two-year spell. However, the Malian FA has stormed the market searching for a new tactician to lead the team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Diawara, who has already been linked with the vacant job has now confirmed his desire lead the Eagles, stressing he is the right man for the job.

“I would like to reiterate my desire to secure the position of Mali’s head coach,” he said. “I have been working with the national team for several years. I am ready, and I have an experienced coaching staff. My application will be in the federation’s hands very soon.”

It is a bold yet calculated move from a figure who understands the inner workings of Malian football. Having served within the technical structures of both Mali and neighboring Guinea, Diawara is positioning himself as a candidate who blends continuity with ambition. His familiarity with the players, the system, and the expectations surrounding the national team could prove to be a major advantage.

The timing of his declaration adds further intrigue to an already evolving situation. With the Eagles seeking stability and direction after Saintfiet’s departure, the federation faces a crucial decision—whether to trust a candidate from within or look elsewhere for a fresh perspective.

Diawara, however, is making his case loud and clear. Backed by what he describes as a well-prepared and experienced coaching team, he is not merely expressing interest—he is actively pushing to take charge.

For Mali, a nation rich in footballing talent and ambition, the next appointment will shape the trajectory of the team in upcoming competitions. And as the process unfolds, Diawara has ensured his name will be impossible to ignore.

Confident, prepared, and determined, the former defender has stepped out of the shadows and into the spotlight—ready to lead the Eagles if given the chance.
