Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Ethan Visagie joins ORBIT College on two-year deal

Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Ethan Visagie has completed a permanent move to ORBIT College, signing a two-year contract after leaving the Buccaneers.

The 24-year-old joined Orlando Pirates in 2022 following spells with NC Professionals and Upington City. During his time at the club, Visagie was largely used as a back-up goalkeeper in the first team.

He spent last season with the reserve side before departing Orlando Pirates. Sources have now confirmed that he has agreed to join ORBIT College, who were recently relegated and are preparing for an immediate return to the top flight.

Visagie becomes the second player to move from Orlando Pirates to ORBIT College during the off-season. He follows Abdoulaye Mariko, who also joined the club as part of its efforts to assemble a squad capable of securing promotion.

The goalkeeper’s departure represents another change in the goalkeeping department at Orlando Pirates. Melusi Buthelezi also left the club before the start of the new campaign and has since signed for Sekhukhune United.

Orlando Pirates have moved to strengthen the position by signing 21-year-old Dublin Boon from Stellenbosch. Boon is expected to provide competition following Visagie’s exit, while Siyabonga Dladla remains the deputy goalkeeper.

Zoey Monyepao is also included in the first-team set-up, with Sipho Chaine continuing as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Visagie’s move gives ORBIT College another player with experience of the Orlando Pirates system as they attempt to build a squad capable of winning promotion back to the top flight. For the Buccaneers, his departure is part of a wider reshaping of the goalkeeping group ahead of the new campaign.

The transfer follows a period in which Visagie struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team option at Orlando Pirates. After joining the club in 2022, he remained primarily a reserve choice before spending the previous season with the club’s reserve team.

His arrival at ORBIT College means the club have now recruited both Visagie and Mariko from Orlando Pirates during the off-season, as they look to recover from relegation.
