Mohamed Amoura returns to Wolfsburg squad during tense Bundesliga finale

Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura endured another frustrating afternoon at Wolfsburg as he was limited to only a brief late appearance in the club’s decisive Bundesliga victory over FC St. Pauli on Saturday.

Back in the squad for the final matchday of the German top-flight season, Amoura entered the match during stoppage time and played only five minutes as Wolfsburg secured an important 3-1 away victory.

The limited involvement came just one week after the forward was left out of the squad for disciplinary reasons during Wolfsburg’s previous fixture.

Although he was quickly reinstated by the coaching staff, his position within the team appears increasingly uncertain heading into the final stage of the campaign.

Amoura, who had been an important figure earlier in the season, now appears to have fallen down the pecking order during a tense run-in for the German side. His brief appearance against St. Pauli did little to change the growing perception that he has lost his regular starting role.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Algerian international’s situation, Wolfsburg achieved their immediate objective by avoiding direct relegation from the Bundesliga.

The victory over FC St. Pauli ensured the club finished in a position that sends them into the relegation play-offs rather than automatic demotion to the second division.

Wolfsburg will now face the team that finishes third in the 2. Bundesliga in a two-legged play-off to determine their place in next season’s Bundesliga campaign.

The identity of their opponent is still to be confirmed, with SC Paderborn 07, Hannover 96 and SV Elversberg all still in contention ahead of the final round of second-division fixtures.

As Wolfsburg prepare for matches that could define the club’s immediate future in German football, Amoura will hope to regain the confidence of his coach and earn more meaningful minutes in the decisive fixtures ahead.
