Flick calls on Barcelona fans to help fight for every trophy
Hansi Flick has urged every Barcelona supporter to bring their energy and passion to the stadium this season as his side prepare to compete for all available honours.
The Barcelona head coach delivered his message to the club’s supporters during an appearance at Camp Nou at the start of the new campaign. Barcelona face Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou on Wednesday evening, in their final friendly before their competitive season continues.
Flick thanked the fans for the backing they gave Barcelona last season and welcomed the club’s new signings and members of the coaching staff.
“I would like to thank you for your support last season, and welcome the new signings and members of the coaching staff,” he said.
The German also spoke personally about the support he received from the Barcelona family after the death of his father last year.
“There is another thing I would like to say: when I lost my father last year, I felt all the love and support from the entire Barcelona family. You were there for me and my family, and it was wonderful,” Flick added.
He said Barcelona had assembled a squad with the quality needed to approach the new season with confidence, while thanking sporting director Deco, the club president and everyone involved in running the club.
“We welcome the new season. We have a great and exceptional team, with a lot of quality. Thank you to Deco, the president and everyone responsible at the club,” said Flick.
The manager then made a direct appeal to the supporters, stressing that their presence and backing would be important throughout the campaign.
“We need every Barcelona fan in the stadium this year. We need your energy and passion; we need you,” he said.
Flick concluded by insisting that his players and staff were ready to commit themselves to the demands of the season and challenge for success on every front.
“We are ready to work every day, and we are also ready to fight for all the titles,” he said.
Barcelona’s starting line-up for the match against Al Ahly is:
Goalkeeper: Joan Garcia.
Defenders: Alejandro Balde, Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde.
Midfielders: Xavi Espart, Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal.
Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Hamza Abdelkarim and Raphinha.
The fixture represents Barcelona’s final friendly as they complete their preparations for the new season. Their next match will be against Elche on Sunday in the second round of La Liga.
Flick’s pre-match address combined a welcome for the new campaign with recognition of the support Barcelona’s fans have already given him and the club. His central message was that the team’s ambition to compete for every trophy will require the continued involvement of supporters inside Camp Nou.
