Fiston Mayele keeps future open as Al Ahly interest emerges
The future of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele remains uncertain amid confirmed interest from Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, although no final decision is expected until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Representatives of the prolific forward have acknowledged that Al Ahly are monitoring Mayele’s situation, but the club is currently prioritising the recruitment of a younger striker as part of its transfer strategy.
However, sources close to the situation indicate that Mayele could quickly emerge as a serious alternative should the Cairo-based giants fail to land their preferred targets during the transfer window.
For now, the 31-year-old is understood to be concentrating fully on his international responsibilities with DR Congo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with discussions over his club future set to take place after the global tournament.
Mayele has built an impressive reputation during his time with Pyramids, establishing himself as one of Africa’s most clinical forwards. Since joining the Egyptian club, he has made 125 appearances, scoring 54 goals and contributing nine assists across all competitions.
His impact has been central to Pyramids’ recent success, helping the club secure several major honours. During his spell, Mayele lifted the Egypt Cup, CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, cementing his status as a key figure in the team’s rise on both domestic and continental fronts.
Beyond team success, the Congolese international has also enjoyed remarkable individual recognition. He finished as the CAF Champions League Top Scorer for the 2024/25 campaign after previously claiming the CAF Confederation Cup Top Scorer award in the 2022/23 season.
Mayele’s performances on the continental stage further earned him the African Inter-Club Player of the Year award in 2025, while his goalscoring exploits also saw him crowned FIFA Intercontinental Cup Top Scorer the same year.
Despite the growing transfer speculation, Mayele’s immediate priority remains representing DR Congo on football’s biggest stage, leaving any potential move to Al Ahly or elsewhere on hold until after the World Cup.
Mayele has been named in DR Congo’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
