FIFA lifts transfer ban on Ittihad of Alexandria after debt settlement
FIFA has officially lifted the transfer ban imposed on Egyptian side Ittihad of Alexandria after the club settled outstanding financial obligations to an undisclosed party.
The global football governing body had, on March 7, sanctioned the coastal club with a three-transfer window registration ban, although it did not initially provide details surrounding the decision.
Later, Ittihad president Mohamed Salama disclosed to Egyptian media that the sanction stemmed from delayed payments owed to the club’s former Guinean player Namory Traore.
Ittihad were among several Egyptian clubs affected by similar restrictions, including Zamalek, Modern Sport, Eastern Company, Tala YC, El Sekka El Hadid, Raya SC, and Ismaily.
Despite the sanctions, the Alexandria-based outfit remained active in the January transfer window, bringing in five new players to strengthen their squad.
On the pitch, Ittihad currently sit ninth in the Egyptian Premier League relegation group standings with 28 points, trailing leaders Wadi Degla by 13 points.
