FIFA hits Zamalek with three-window transfer ban amid rising financial and licensing pressure

FIFA has imposed a fresh disciplinary sanction on Zamalek SC, banning the club from registering new players for the next three transfer windows.

The decision comes as another setback for the Cairo giants, who are already working to resolve a growing list of outstanding financial disputes and legal cases in order to stabilise their sporting and administrative situation ahead of the new season.

FIFA has reportedly added a new case to Zamalek’s ongoing registration restrictions, increasing the total number of active disputes to 17. The accumulation of cases has placed significant pressure on the club’s management, which is now racing against time to settle debts and avoid further sporting sanctions.

The ruling means Zamalek will be unable to register new signings across the next three transfer windows unless the outstanding issues are fully resolved and any imposed sanctions are lifted.

Beyond domestic implications, the situation could also affect Zamalek’s participation in next season’s CAF Champions League. The club is required to meet strict financial and administrative licensing criteria set by continental authorities in order to compete.

Failure to settle pending cases with FIFA and other parties could jeopardise their eligibility, adding further urgency to ongoing negotiations and payment plans being handled by the club’s board.

The developments come shortly after Zamalek secured the Egyptian Premier League title for the 15th time in their history, sealing the championship with a narrow 1–0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra FC on the final day of the season.

Despite that sporting success, the club’s off-field challenges now threaten to overshadow their on-pitch achievements, with administrative stability becoming a key priority heading into the new campaign.

The Zamalek hierarchy is now expected to prioritise resolving financial disputes, including negotiations with former players and staff, in order to lift the ban and secure the necessary licence for continental competition.

With pressure mounting from both FIFA and CAF regulations, the coming weeks are set to be decisive in determining whether Zamalek can stabilise their operations and fully capitalise on their recent domestic triumph.
