FIFA delegation assesses FECOFOOT crisis in Congo

FIFA has intensified its involvement in the crisis affecting Congolese football after sending a delegation to Brazzaville to assess the ongoing dysfunction within the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT).

The mission, which ran from May 3 to May 6, brought together several representatives from world football’s governing body, tasked with examining the institutional tensions that have disrupted the management and development of football in Congo.

During their stay in the capital, FIFA officials held a series of meetings and hearings with federation leaders, sports officials, stakeholders and members of the administration.

The objective of the emergency visit was to gather a broad and impartial understanding of the issues currently paralysing FECOFOOT.

The discussions allowed FIFA’s delegation to hear differing perspectives from the various parties involved in the dispute.

By engaging directly with those concerned, the organisation sought to establish a clearer picture of the political and administrative challenges affecting the federation.

The consultation process was viewed as a key step before any major decision is taken. FIFA’s representatives focused on identifying the root causes of the instability while evaluating possible solutions capable of restoring order within Congolese football structures.

With the mission now concluded, attention has shifted towards the measures that FIFA could implement in the coming weeks.

Among the options being widely discussed is the creation of a Normalization Committee, a temporary body that would oversee the federation’s operations during a transitional period.

Such a committee would likely be responsible for restoring institutional stability, managing daily affairs and organising new elections aimed at rebuilding credibility within FECOFOOT.

The possibility of external oversight reflects the seriousness of the current crisis and the level of concern surrounding the federation’s governance.

The situation represents a significant moment for football in Congo, with many observers awaiting FIFA’s next move.

Supporters and stakeholders hope the intervention could pave the way for improved transparency and a more stable future for the sport in the country.

FIFA’s conclusions are expected to play an important role in determining the direction of Congolese football in the years ahead, as efforts continue to resolve one of the federation’s most difficult periods in recent history.
