FC Utrecht are eager to make Sebastien Haller’s stay permanent after a solid loan spell, but the Dutch club’s financial ceiling may derail the plan.
The striker, who returned to Utrecht on loan from Borussia Dortmund for the 2024/25 season, remains high on the club’s wishlist.
Haller made a strong impression, scoring six goals in 18 games and rekindling memories of his earlier spell between 2014 and 2017. However, a permanent move in summer 2025 looks complicated.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Utrecht can only offer a maximum salary of €500,000, while Haller currently earns €8.5 million a year in Germany.
Utrecht are reportedly open to a longer commitment if the 30-year-old agrees to a massive pay cut.
Haller’s return brought energy and firepower to Utrecht’s frontline, and the club is keen to hold onto that spark. But unless the striker agrees to a sharp drop in wages, hopes of a fairytale reunion may remain just that, a dream.
