FC Metz bids farewell to Habib Maïga as he embarks on Hungarian journey with Ferencváros

FC Metz, having recently secured the services of their “King Georges,” bids adieu to a formidable asset, Habib Maïga. The Ivorian international, a stalwart for the Lorraine club, is set to make a significant move to Hungary, joining Ferencváros.

Habib Maïga’s departure marks the end of a remarkable chapter with FC Metz, where he played a pivotal role in two promotions, in 2019 and 2023, contributing to the club’s ascent.

The seasoned midfielder, who also donned the captain’s armband, showcased his dedication through 140 appearances in the Grenats jersey.

Despite his impactful tenure, Maïga faced setbacks this season, grappling with injuries that limited his on-field presence.

The Ivorian captain, taking a pragmatic step back, featured in a mere seven matches in the current campaign.

As reported by L’Équipe, the transition for Maïga involves a move to Ferencváros in Hungary, signaling a new chapter in his football journey.

The Hungarian club is reported to have secured the services of the Ivorian midfielder by offering a transfer fee of 400,000 euros to FC Metz.

The departure of Habib Maïga represents a notable shift for both the player and FC Metz, with the Ivorian’s departure generating discussions among football enthusiasts.

His legacy at the Lorraine club, marked by achievements and resilience, will be remembered as he ventures into a fresh footballing landscape with Ferencváros.

The move underscores the dynamic nature of football transfers during the winter window and sets the stage for Maïga’s continued impact on the international football stage.
