Fabinho reunites with Mohamed Salah as Trabzonspor agree two-year deal
Trabzonspor have reached an agreement to sign former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho on a free transfer, with the Brazil international set to join the Turkish club for two seasons and link up again with Mohamed Salah.
Fabinho arrived in Turkiye on Monday morning to complete the formalities of his move. The 32-year-old is expected to sign for Trabzonspor, who now include his former Liverpool team-mate Salah in their squad.
“Playing with Salah again is a very special feeling,” Fabinho told beIN Sports. “As well as being a great player, and perhaps more importantly, he is also a great person.”
He added: “We played together for five years. Despite everything we achieved, he still works hard to be the best and gives everything he has for the team.”
Trabzonspor published footage of Fabinho’s journey to Turkiye, with the midfielder seen wearing the club’s shirt.
The agreement follows formal negotiations between the Turkish side and Fabinho, according to Turkish broadcaster A Spor. The club had initially reached a preliminary understanding with the player before moving towards completing the transfer.
Fabinho became a free agent after ending his time with Al-Ittihad. During last season, he made 44 appearances in all competitions, playing a total of 3,906 minutes. He scored three goals and provided four assists.
The midfielder also represented Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, making three appearances during the tournament.
If the move is completed as expected, Fabinho will play alongside Salah again after the pair spent five years together at Liverpool. Their previous spell as team-mates formed part of a highly successful period for the English club, although the source article does not specify the trophies they won together.
Trabzonspor are continuing to strengthen their squad as they prepare to resume the new season’s fixtures. The club have already completed the signing of Salah and are targeting success in domestic and continental competitions.
Fabinho’s arrival would add further experience to their midfield and provide a familiar connection with Salah, who is now preparing for another campaign in Turkiye. The Brazilian’s most recent season at Al-Ittihad was a demanding one in terms of playing time, with his 44 appearances amounting to more than 3,900 minutes across all competitions.
The transfer also represents a return to European football for Fabinho after his spell with Al-Ittihad. His next step will be to finalise the contract with Trabzonspor and begin working with his new team-mates, including Salah, as the Turkish club continue their recruitment drive.
