Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior believes a successful FA Cup campaign could provide a crucial turning point for both the club’s immediate fortunes and the long-term development of his squad, as the Blues navigate a challenging domestic season.

With inconsistency continuing to hinder their push in the Premier League, Rosenior has placed renewed emphasis on knockout success, insisting the FA Cup offers a valuable opportunity to restore confidence and reinforce belief within the group.

Chelsea face lower-league opposition in the form of Port Vale in the quarterfinals, with a place in the last four at stake.

Rosenior framed the tie as a defining moment in Chelsea’s season, underlining both its competitive importance and its psychological value.

“I want to focus on a massive game tomorrow where if we win, we can make an FA Cup semi-final,” he said.

Despite their league struggles, Rosenior remains optimistic about Chelsea’s prospects of securing European qualification, pointing specifically to the UEFA Champions League as an attainable objective.

Balancing these dual ambitions, he stressed that a winning mentality must underpin every competition the club enters.

“We want to win. No matter what the competition is, we always want to win. It’s not about me, I’ve said that before. It’s not about me winning silverware. It’s about this club being successful now and in the long term,” Rosenior stated, shifting the focus from personal accolades to institutional progress.

Beyond results, the Chelsea manager highlighted the importance of adversity in shaping the identity of his squad. He pointed to the current phase as a necessary period of growth, where both players and staff are tested under pressure.

“To do that, you have to go through difficult moments. You learn a lot about the characters in your group,” he explained, broadening the scope of responsibility to include not just the players, but also the wider backroom team.
