Ivorian Martial Godo scores as Strasbourg defeat Nice in Ligue 1
Ivorian winger Martial Godo delivered a standout display as RC Strasbourg Alsace secured a convincing 3-1 win over OGC Nice in Ligue 1.
Fresh from his recent involvement with the Ivory Coast national team during the international break, Godo carried his momentum into club football with an energetic and decisive performance.
From the opening stages, he proved a constant threat on the right flank, troubling the Nice defence with his pace and movement.
His impact was rewarded in the 28th minute when he rose to meet a cross and guided a precise header into the net, giving Strasbourg a deserved lead. The goal capped an impressive start and set the tone for the home side’s dominance.
Strasbourg quickly built on their advantage, doubling the lead through Enciso in the 36th minute. The hosts continued to press forward, and their attacking intent paid off again just before the interval when El Mourabet struck a superb effort in the 42nd minute to make it 3-0.
Holding a commanding lead at half-time, Strasbourg managed the second half with composure. Nice attempted to respond but struggled to break down a well-organised defence.
Their only reward came late in the match, when Mendy pulled one back in the 82nd minute, though it proved little more than consolation.
The Alsatian side remained in control throughout the closing stages, comfortably seeing out the result without further concern.
For Godo, it marks an impressive week on both the international and domestic stage. The winger had also found the net for Ivory Coast in their recent match against South Korea, underlining his growing influence and confidence.
His performance against Nice not only highlighted his attacking qualities but also reinforced his importance to Strasbourg as they secured a well-earned victory.
