Erling Haaland has no automatic exit clause if Manchester City are relegated

Erling Haaland could be unable to leave Manchester City automatically if the club are relegated as a result of the Premier League charges they face, according to a report by Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Norway striker is waiting, along with several of his team-mates, to discover what punishment Manchester City might receive over allegations that the club breached Premier League regulations.

Haaland’s contract runs until 2034, but Sport reports that he has an option to leave in 2030 if he decides he wants to do so. However, the agreement does not include a clause allowing him to depart immediately if Manchester City are relegated.

For now, the possibility of Manchester City being excluded from the Premier League remains entirely hypothetical. No official decision has been announced, and the club’s ability to keep Haaland in the event of relegation is therefore still a theoretical issue.

Manchester City’s capacity to comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations could prove important. If the club remain able to meet those requirements, they may be in a strong position to retain Haaland.

Much could ultimately depend on the player’s own wishes. Haaland is not expected to want to play outside the top flight when he turns 27 next summer, particularly as he continues to pursue Champions League records and a number of individual honours and achievements that could remain in place for many years.

Haaland has scored 169 goals and provided 30 assists in 205 appearances for Manchester City.

Although there has been no official announcement, the prevailing belief is that Manchester City have already begun the process of appealing the decision.
