English-Nigerian winger Noni Madueke cuts holiday short for early Arsenal return ahead of debut against Man Utd
Noni Madueke has returned to Arsenal training earlier than scheduled as he prepares for a potential debut against Manchester United in the Premier League opener on August 17.
The England international, who has Nigerian heritage, made the decision to end his post-Club World Cup break early.
Madueke featured for Chelsea in that tournament before completing his move to Arsenal and therefore did not take part in the Gunners’ pre-season tour of Asia, where they faced Tottenham, AC Milan and Newcastle United.
Despite being eager to travel with his new teammates for the tour, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta opted to delay his integration to allow the winger some rest.
“With Noni it wasn’t possible because he needed some time, and he’s going to take a short vacation,” Arteta said. “He said he wants to join straight away, as soon as we are back.”
True to his word, Madueke rejoined training last week at London Colney, ahead of the rest of the Arsenal squad’s return.
The 23-year-old will now hope to feature in the Gunners’ remaining pre-season matches at the Emirates Stadium against Villarreal and Athletic Club.
Arsenal fans are eagerly anticipating Madueke’s debut and how Arteta will deploy the versatile wide man, who can operate effectively on either flank.
