Embrose Papier leads Blue Bulls awards after standout season

The Blue Bulls have honoured Embrose Papier as the standout performer at their annual awards, with the scrum-half collecting both the Players’ Player of the Year and Senior MVP/Player of the Year prizes.

The awards, announced on Wednesday night, recognised individual and team performances across every level of the union. The honours covered the Bulls’ junior programmes, the senior Bulls, the Carling Currie Cup team, the Bulls Daisies and the franchise’s campaigns in the United Rugby Championship and Champions Cup.

Papier was the leading figure among the senior Bulls after an outstanding year. His success in both of the major senior individual categories reflected the regard in which he was held by his team-mates and the wider organisation.

Several other players also enjoyed especially productive campaigns, winning more than one award.

JJ Theron was recognised as Forward of the Year at both U21 and U23 level, highlighting his progress through the Blue Bulls system. His double achievement marked a significant step in his development and underlined his influence in both age-group teams.

Jeandre Rudolph also completed a highly successful season with two major honours. He was named Player of the Year in the Carling Currie Cup and also received the Forward of the Year award for the Champions Cup.

The women’s team, the Bulls Daisies, produced two more double award-winners.

Vainah Ubisi collected the Try of the Year and Forward of the Year awards, while Camelitha Malone was named both Pulse of the Team and Players’ Player of the Year.

Those awards recognised the Daisies’ continued development and growing status as one of the Blue Bulls’ most exciting sides.

The annual programme included awards for the Bulls U19s in 2025, the Bulls U21s in 2025 and the Bulls U23 in 2026. It also covered the Carling Currie Cup for 2025, the Bulls Daisies in 2026, the Champions Cup for the 2025-26 season and the United Rugby Championship for 2025-26.

Team honours were also included, alongside the Blue Bulls company awards.

The ceremony therefore reflected the breadth of the union’s rugby operation, with recognition stretching from the junior ranks to the senior men’s and women’s teams competing in domestic and international competitions.

Papier’s two awards provided the clearest individual headline from the evening, while the multiple honours for Theron, Rudolph, Ubisi and Malone emphasised the strength of performances across the Blue Bulls system.
